JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE DELI CLERK
REPORTS TO: STORE MANAGER
PAY RANGE: $18.00 - $22.25
CLASSIFICATION: HOURLY; NON-EXEMPT
POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Nisqually Markets (NM) Deli Clerk is responsible for a variety of tasks that contribute to Deli’s success and the satisfaction of the customer including providing excellent customer service, preparing food and specialty items, ensures proper inventory management including the orders, stocking, rotating and ensuring hot and frozen food freshness. Works with store personnel to ensure all equipment is clean and in proper working order. Assists with a variety of sales transactions.
Required Skills & Knowledge
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Minors need a Parent/School authorization form.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Open availability - able to work all shifts; hours can vary
- Must be able to occasionally lift 50 pounds, be able to stand, walk and run for long periods of time, climb and balance on a ladder, stoop and bend.
- Able to follow a variety of easy-to-follow recipes and directions
- Well versed and certified in food handling, safety and proper cleaning & sanitization.
- Must be able to pass background check and drug screening (marijuana excluded).
- Have or obtain Washington State food handlers permit within 14 days of employment
Preferred Skills & Knowledge
- Basic food safety procedures to handle hazardous materials safely and prevent accidents & injuries
- Ability to obtain and maintain WA State Food Handlers Card or within 1 month of hire.

- Maintains the physical appearance and cleanliness of the deli, store, and outdoor areas of the property.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to traverse all parts of the deli, service and market areas quickly.
- Prolonged standing and walking throughout the day.
- Ability to converse with customers
- Ability to lift and move objects more than 25 pounds on frequent basis
- Ability to clean and sanitize with the use of approve chemicals.
- Manual dexterity to perform cashiering functions
- Potential for after-hour work including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Must be able to lift 25-50 pounds frequently.
Travel Requirements:
- Occasional travel to workshops, conferences, trainings and corporate meetings
- Ability to travel to other NM locations to assist as staffing requires
