JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE CASHIER
REPORTS TO: STORE MANAGER
RANGE: $18.00 - $22.25
STATUS: HOURLY; NON-EXEMPT
POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Nisqually Market Cashier is responsible for processing a variety of transactions, handling payments, refunds, exchanges all while providing excellent customer service.
Requires Skills and Knowledge:
- Must be 18 years or older
- High School diploma or equivalent is preferred
- 6 months prior cashiering experience with accuracy handling cash, POS sales equipment and balancing register at shift end
- Exceptional custom er service
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents
- Must be able to work a 5-day shift where hours of operation are 7 days a week from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM and some locations up to 24 hours. Ability to work nights, evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Ability to lift to 50lbs (how often, need to cite here), be on your feet for long periods; climb a ladder; bend and stoop
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
- Must be able to pass preemployment background check
Have or obtain Washington State food handlers permit within 14 days of employment
Preferred Skills and Knowledge:
- Ability to maintain accurate records of various transactions including receipts, refunds, etc.
- Possess basic math skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to resolve customer disputes
- Knowledge of Tribal, Federal and State ordinances and laws regarding the sale of alcohol, tobacco and other age-controlled products
- Ability to train in all aspects of C-store operations including fuel, deli, freight and supervision

Essential Functions of the Job:
- Processes a variety of transactions including cash, credit and debit card processing
- Provides exceptional customer service
- Possess keen product knowledge and the ability to “up sell” products
- Provides customers with promotional deals and value of Nisqually Markets App.
- Stocking behind registers and handling food safely.
- Prepares routine shift reports and checks for accuracy
- Maintain cleanliness of the store and property
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged standing
- Ability to lift and move heavy idents such as cash drawers, products, etc.
- Able to bend and stoop repeatedly to assist customers, scan an assist in other areas
- Ability to reach over their shoulders frequently
- Ability to work outside in a variety of conditions
- Must possess manual dexterity to perform register functions
Environment:
This job operates indoors in a Convenience Store (C-store); Routinely uses standard cashiering equipment (registers, time delay safes, credit card processors, phones, etc.
Travel Requirements:
- Occasional travel to workshops, conferences, trainings and corporate meetings
- Ability to travel to other NM locations to assist as staffing requires
