About This Role

The Brockweir Village Shop & Café is a thriving, community-owned business serving our village and surrounding area. We are looking for a capable and committed Assistant Shop Manager to support the General Manager in the day-to-day running of the shop.

This is a hands-on role combining customer service, stock management and team support. You will help oversee ordering, merchandising, cash handling, and the supervision of our valued volunteers and staff. It is a position with real responsibility and an opportunity to make a tangible difference in a well-established community enterprise.

The Role
• 22.5 hours per week worked over 3 days
• Some weekend working required
• Salary scale £15,000 – £15,960 depending on experience and performance
• Initial 12-month appointment

A candidate with strong, relevant experience may be appointed above the minimum point of the scale.

The role is offered for 12 months in the first instance. Subject to the financial position of the business and performance in the role, we would expect to make the position permanent. There may also be scope for the role to increase to full-time in the future if business needs require.

About You
We are looking for someone who:
• Has experience in retail or another customer-facing environment
• Is organised, numerate and comfortable handling responsibility
• Enjoys working with people and supporting volunteers
• Is practical, flexible and dependable
• Shares our commitment to community enterprise

Previous supervisory or retail management experience would be welcome, but it is not essential. We are equally interested in applicants who can demonstrate the right skills, attitude and willingness to learn. Training and support will be provided to help the successful candidate grow into the role.

If you are unsure whether your experience fits but feel you could contribute to the continued success of our community shop, we would encourage you to apply.
