About This Role
The Wichita Art Museum’s Part Time Seasonal Museum Teacher will be responsible for leading tours and educational programs for visitors ranging in age from preschoolers to adults. Museum teachers will collaborate with staff in the Learning, Engagement, and Partnerships (LEAP) Department to plan and implement programs in the galleries and in the art studio that focus on both the permanent collection and featured exhibitions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Lead engaging and educational tours for K-12 students in the permanent collection and featured exhibitions.
- Plan and implement art-looking and artmaking workshops for K-12 student groups.
- Facilitate programs and tours for college students and adults, including WAM Nights programs on Friday evenings, private tours, and artmaking workshops.
- Assist LEAP staff in implementing Family ArtVentures and other programs for families.
- Assist with programs for preschoolers as needed, including Art Start and Storytime.
- Collaborate on program planning with LEAP staff, including Manager of School and Family Programs, Director of LEAP, and Coordinator of LEAP.
- Modify gallery and studio experiences to meet visitor needs, accommodate varying abilities, and address teacher requests.
- Immediately notify WAM staff of issues impacting visitor safety and well-being.
- Attend training sessions on works of art and teaching strategies prior to leading tours and programs.
- Regularly check email to stay informed about tour schedule, museum updates, and other communication from LEAP staff.
