About This Role
The Martin ArtQuest (MAQ) Manager supports and facilitates engaging, self-directed learning and art-making experiences for visitors of all ages within the MAQ Gallery, the Frist Art Museum’s interactive learning space. This role is responsible for the daily operations, staffing, and overall successful functionality of the gallery, including the management of art-making activities, supplies, technology, staff, and volunteers.
The MAQ Manager ensures consistent, high-quality visitor engagement through effective scheduling, communication, and team leadership. The position also supports the development and evaluation of interactive activities that encourage creativity and imagination in collaboration with the Assistant Educator for Family Programs.
Additionally, the MAQ Manager facilitates occasional intergenerational public programs, such as the Drop-in Drawing, or other public programs to be developed, and contributes to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all visitors. This role requires strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills to foster excellent customer service and positive staff and volunteer relations.
Schedule: Thursday-Monday, including administrative holidays. Occasional evenings are required based on scheduling, program, and event needs.

Essential Job Functions:
Program Facilitation and Visitor Experience
• Facilitate engaging, self-directed learning and art-making experiences for intergenerational audiences of all abilities within the Martin ArtQuest (MAQ).
• Ensure a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment within MAQ by actively monitoring visitor interactions and gallery conditions and demonstrating excellent customer service.
• Facilitate intergenerational public programs, such as Drop-in-Drawing, ensuring a high-quality and engaging participant experience.
• Maintain clear and consistent communication with the Assistant Educator for Family Programs and MAQ staff regarding daily operations and program needs.
• Maintain regular communication with the Engagement Administrator regarding group visits and visitor experience needs.
• Collaborate with internal teams across the organization to develop positive working relationships in support of MAQ operation.
Program Development
• Collaborate with appropriate staff, to support the development and enhancement of MAQ activities and interactive stations on a rotating basis during the year with creativity and imagination.
• Assist with activity development including material ordering, prototyping, field testing, and gathering feedback from staff, facilitators, volunteers, and visitors.
• Continuously assess and refine learning experiences to ensure activities are engaging, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with exhibition content.
• Attend exhibition meetings to integrate upcoming exhibition themes into MAQ programming.
Operations and Resource Management
• Responsible for the purchasing, shipping, receiving, and organization of MAQ supplies, ensuring materials are well-stocked and maintained, and the ongoing organization and repurposing of materials.
• Coordinate regular cleaning and upkeep of MAQ spaces, including galleries, storage areas, and shared resources, in collaboration with Operations staff.
• Oversee and maintain all technology components within MAQ, coordinating with IT staff to address maintenance and functionality needs.
Staffing and Supervision
• Coordinate, schedule, and supervise MAQ part-time and on-call facilitators, and volunteers, to ensure consistent coverage during all operating hours.
• Manage onboarding process for part-time and on-call facilitators and volunteers and provide daily guidance, support, and performance feedback.
