About This Role
Geva Theatre, a LORT B regional theatre in the heart of Rochester, New York, seeks an experienced and collaborative Resident Stage Manager to join its production team. The Resident AEA Stage Managers are responsible for stage managerial duties including coordination and supervision of assigned guest artist companies throughout Geva’s produced season as a member of the full-time staff. Also responsible for Geva’s core values of artistic courage, sustainability, excellence, boundless hospitality, empathy, and anti-racism and inclusion.
The Resident Stage Manager will be assigned projects within Geva’s subscription season. This position begins June 1, 2026 with continuous employment through June 27, 2027. Assignments will include:
- Week of June 1: Onboarding/admin week at Geva
- June 9 – Aug 9: ASM position – A Chorus Line at Barrington Stage (Co-Production with Geva)
- Weeks of Aug 10 & 17: Onboarding/admin weeks at Geva
- Aug 25 – Oct 11: ASM position – A Chorus Line (Geva leg)
- Oct 12 – Dec 27: ASM position – A Christmas Carol
- Remaining season track to be determined.
Salary will follow AEA compensation rules when acting as ASM or PSM on a production. When not actively stage managing, the resident shall receive the following weekly rates for their administrative workweeks: $1,159 until 6/30/26; $1,229 beginning 7/1/26.
**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITY**
- Stage Management
- With guidance from Production Management, Stage Manage or Assistant Stage Manager Geva productions as assigned, on both the Fielding and Wilson Stages.
- Train and onboard new or substitute Stage Managers, Production Assistants, and Stage Management Interns.
- Administration
- Attend weekly production staff meetings, production meetings, and technical rehearsal meetings as required.
- Maintain inventory and budget of basic office and rehearsal supplies, as well as hospitality and first aid supplies to support rehearsal and performance processes.
- Represent Stage Management and Guest Artist Companies at quarterly Safety Committee meetings
**TRAITS IN A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE**
- Demonstrated experience stage managing large scale theatrical productions, both musical and non-musical.
- Experience in leadership, teamwork, and management principles for a diverse staff.
- Knowledge of safety procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
- Basic computer skills in Word, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive, Dropbox, and the Internet as needed for research on tools, materials, and procedures.
- Effective communication skills for asking informed questions and presenting research information.
- Ability to handle significant responsibility with little or no supervisor while displaying consistent expertise.
- Proven capacity for quick, effective problem-solving and confident decision-making in service of Geva, its artists, and staff.
**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**
- Ability to crouch, twist, turn, bend, stoop, climb stairs, stand and sit for extended periods of time, reach above, below and at neck level, have full range of neck motion, see near and far with good depth perception, and work indoors.
- Access to reliable transportation.
